The Mill

I did not make this video, or have anything to do with it.  I am just really inspired by it and thought I'd share.

Catfish Noodling

I had the amazing opportunity to go catfish noodling a couple of months ago.  I was commissioned by DITLO (Day in the Life of) to go up to Oklahoma and shoot the family that stars in the Animal Planets TV show Hillbilly Handfishin'.  My two assistants and I had the best time with the Bivins family.  Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Then of course my awesome assistants (Matt and Brenda) and I had to get a shot with the catch of the day.

Jack Black Skincare

This was such a cool project, that I was able to work on with the Jack Black team.  I Directed and DP'd on these videos.
We shot this first one at the amazing barber shop in Deep Ellum, Robs  Chop Shop.  I scouted about 6 different barber shops in Dallas, but we knew it had to be this one.  It had such a cool vibe and the decor was amazing.  This first one is their "Anthem" video, the one that shows the look and feel of their brand.

This video is the "How to" video that teaches you how to use the Double Edge Safety Razor, that we shot in the studio.

TIME magazine - Obamacare

I was real excited when I got the call from TIME magazine to go down to Houston and shoot some portraits for an Obamacare story they were working on.  The article was about people in different walks of life and the effects that it will have on them.  The two days of shooting went so well.  The locations were very inspiring (creatively) and the subjects were very cool and easy to work with.  Good experience all the way around.

Here are the tears, but also a few others that didn't make the cut, that I liked a lot.

Couple recent Tears

I'm trying to keep up with the blog lately.  There has been so much going on, that it gets pushed on the back burner many times.  So my plan is to not feel the pressure of writing an essay for each one (not that I do now, but I always feel I should), and to combine recent tears and things.

So here are a couple of tears from my D CEO mag shoot with Ashlee from Ruthies Rolling Cafe.  She was incredibly sweet during the shoot.

And here is a tear of Chip Tate of Balcones whisky for Whisky Advocate mag.  One cool cat!

Dick Armey

I got a call from the photo editor of The Washingtonian magazine, who asked if I was available to take a portrait of Dick Armey.  She said that she wanted a "Texas looking" background.  I called my father-in-law who knows every ranch owner in North Texas, and we found the perfect location.  Mr Armey was so great to work with, he is actually quite funny.  My assistants and I were laughing the entire shoot.

Modern Luxury Cover

Had the pleasure of shooting the cover and feature for Modern Luxury this month.  Such a fun issue to shoot for, it usually ends up with me meeting some of the coolest chefs in town and trying the most amazing food.  It was an absolute blast working with Dean Fearing and Nick Badovinus.  They had the best attitudes and were up for whatever I had to throw at them, literally.

PDN Online Interview

Very proud to be featured on PDN Online this month.  They interviewed me about my experience covering the aftermath of the Moore, OK tornado.  It also went into there newsletter that went out to 15,000 creatives.  Thanks PDN, I've loved and subscribed to your magazine for about decade, and now I love you even more.

Adweek

Had a blast shooting these four gentlemen for Adweek recently.  Trip, Steve, Mark and Doug from Firehouse Agency were so cool to work with.  The stuff that comes out of Firehouse, really is amazing!  This shot was a little more of the safe shot, that they ran.  I did want to get another look, a little more edgy, so I talked them into walking across the street to shoot them tagging a train.  They were all for it.

Tornado in Moore, OK

I had the opportunity to shoot for Save The Children in Moore, OK.  I got there the day after the tornado came through.  It was like nothing I had ever seen before.  My mind just could not grasp what my eyes were seeing.  It was just too much to take in, too much to process.  So, I did what comes naturally and took images.  It sort of helped me separate from the chaos and helped me focus.  I was very sensitive in what I was shooting and the people in the frame.  For the portraits I did, I would go up and talk with the families for a while and hear their story, which they were glad to tell.  Then I asked permission to take some photos, in which all but 2 people said that they wouldn't mind at all.  I wanted to show the devastation, but also the resilience of the people.  I did hear some sad stories, but I was amazed to hear all of the miraculous stories.  I constantly heard things like, "My family and I were in the hall with a mattress over us and when it was all over the only thing still standing was our hallway."  and "my elderly grandmother just happened to be on the other side of town when the tornado demolished her home."  It was an extremely sad sight to see, but to hear that only 24 people lost their lives in that town, truly is astonishing.  Here is a little of what I saw and the amazing people I met.

Bell Helicopter

What a pleasure to go out to Bell Helicopters training facility and photograph John Garrison.  It was absolutely amazing just walking around and exploring the 20 or so helicopters in different stages of completeness.  We had free reign to go and shoot wherever we liked.  It was so cool!  John was such a neat guy, and easy to work with.  My only disappointment was not being able to go up in the air in one.  Haha.

I shot this feature for D Magazine that is out on stands now.  These are some of the top nurses in Dallas.  They were all very kind and fantastic to work with.

Balcones

One of the coolest photo shoots I have ever been on.  To have Chip Tate (founder/distiller) give me and my whisky loving assistant a private tour of the distillery, giving us every detail of the process was unbelievable.  I probably asked him 50 questions, it was really intriguing to me.  We had a great shoot with him, then we had a private tasting with Chip of their 7 award winning whiskys.  Amazing!

One of the outtakes that wasn't picked.  I like it a lot though.
